So Katie Price aka Jordan and Celebrity Big Brother 2010 winner Alex Reid have tied the knot in a quickie Las Vegas ceremony, according to media reports, and just days after the couple announced their engagement in an exclusive interview for a gossip magazine.

Over the years, Las Vegas has attracted many celebs to its ‘take-away’ wedding format and it is estimated Las Vegas hosts 120,000 weddings a year. But those looking for a quick and uncomplicated wedding, beware: the speed of breakdown of Vegas celeb marriages also seems to be pretty fast… Are Jordan and Alex tempting fate?
Here’s a look at other celeb couples that have chosen Las Vegas for their ‘I do’ moment:
Elvis Presley and Priscilla –
This is probably the most notorious Vegas wedding of all. The King of Rock married his bride Priscilla in 1967 at Milton Prell’s Aladdin Hotel.
Marriage lasted: 5 years.
Frank Sinatra and Mia Farrow-
In 1966, Frank Sinatra married his third wife, actress Mia Farrow.
Marriage lasted: 2 years.
Bob Geldof and Paula Yates-
Marriage lasted: 9 years.
Dennis Rodman and Carmen Electra -
Chicago Bulls star Rodman and another Baywatch star, Carmen Electra also chose Vegas to get hitched. The marriage was annulled after 10 days when Rodman complaint that he had been drunk at the ceremony.
Marriage lasted: 10 days.
Billy Bob Thornton and Angelina Jolie-
In 2000, Billy Bob Thornton and Angelina Jolie tied the knot in Vegas. The marriage was the fifth for him and second for Jolie.
Marriage lasted: 3 years.
Britney Spears and her childhood friend-
Britney Spear’s 2004 marriage to a childhood friend is probably one of the shortest-lived in the history of Vegas and marriage in general. They annulled after 55 hours.
Marriage lasted: not even 3 days.
Pamela Anderson and Rick Solomon-
It was meant to be third time luck for both Pamela Anderson and Rick Solomon (of the infamous Paris Hilton sex tape). However, two months after getting hitched in Vegas (and citing fraud as the main cause for parting), they got a wedding annulment and went separate ways.
Married lasted: 2 months
Peaches Geldof -
Following in the footsteps of her parents, Peaches got hitched in Vegas to Max Drummey, an American musician.
Marriage lasted: less than a year.
THE HAPPY ONES:
Kirk Douglas
Douglas married Parisian Ann Buydens in Vegas in 1954 and they are still married, despite his many infidelities.
Paul Newman
Newman got hitched at the El Rancho hotel-casino to his second wife Joanne Woodward.
Jon Bon Jovi
Jon Bon Jovi wed his childhood sweetheart the same year his band won the American Music Award for Best Rock Band, 1989. Still married.
Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf
The tennis super-couple got married at home in Vegas four days before their first child was born. Still married, the couple lives in Las Vegas.

Couples in the north east of Ireland might be in for an unpleasant surprise when they try to book their civil ceremony for this summer, since the Health Service Executive (HSE) will have no civil registrars available in Louth or Meath for the months of July and August.
As reported by the Irish Times, the HSE said the lack of registrars for the region is due to retirement of one of the registrars, while the second one is taking planned leave. As public servants, the registrars can’t be replaced, because of the current embargo on recruitment in the public service, so couples from Louth and Meath will have to make bookings in their neighboring counties, such as Cavan or Monaghan. However, all weddings booked to date will not be affected.
The proportion of couples choosing a civil wedding in Ireland has increased from 6% in 1996 to more than 23% per cent in 2006, according to Central Statistics Office (CSO) figures. Civil weddings are quickly becoming popular in Ireland, helped by the change in legislation in 2007. According to CSO, they could overtake religious ceremonies by 2012.

We loved the story of Andrea and Peter, the US couple funding their wedding by recycling aluminium cans and urging friends and savvy recyclers to donate the cash. Their campaign has won a big fan, US aluminium manufacturer Alcoa which is recycling 150,000 cans and donating the cash (nearly $2,000) to the couple.
So it seems that Alcoa has also found its match, since the company is trying to reach 75% recycling rate by 2015. Any more tin-recycling couples out there?

The Portuguese Parliament has passed a bill backing gay marriage that will make Portugal the sixth country in Europe to legalise gay weddings.
The proposed law will have to go to the president, conservative Aníbal Cavaco Silva, before being finally approved. It is expected that the first gay marriage ceremonies could take place in April, after the president’s ratification of the new bill.
“This law rights a wrong,” and ends ‘pointless suffering’, said the prime minister, socialist Jose Socrates.
Back in 2001, a law allowed ‘civil unions’ between same-sex couples, granting them certain legal, tax and property rights. The new bill removes a reference in the current Portuguese law to marriage being between two people of different sexes and gives couples the same recognition. However, it doesn’t allow the adoption of children by homosexual couples.
Gay marriage is currently permitted in Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Norway, Canada, South Africa and six US states.

Now here’s a very unique way of raising cash for your wedding: a US couple is hoping to collect 400,000 aluminium cans, and raise $4,000 to pay for their July wedding.
Andrea Parrish and Peter Geyer, the green happy couple, say ‘environmental responsibility plays a big part in our lives’ and have, so far, collected over 20,000 cans.
On their website, www.weddingcans.com, Andrea and Peter explain their eco and budget-friendly wedding planning technique: “we don’t want anything huge or extravagant… really, we’re planning a potluck, DIY decorations, and getting the help from friends and family for flowers, pictures, the sword-fighting battle, homebrew beer, even the cake. Saving the environment and throwing a killer party… what could be better?”
