The Coolest Wedding in Ireland – and probably the World

The Honeymoon Testers get hitched at -110°C in Wexford

In their attempt to break the Guinness World Record of Most Vow Renewals by One Couple, RunawayBrideandGroom.com’s  The Honeymoon Testers, Mark and Denise Duffield-Thomas, have tied the knot in a wedding ceremony at -110 degrees in County Wexford.

It was not a case of random effects of climate change in Ireland’s Sunny South East, however. The ‘cool’ wedding took place in the Cryo Thermal Unit at Whites Hotel in Wexford.

Whole Body Cryotherapy is the stimulating use of extremely low temperatures below -110°C and Whites of Wexford is the first hotel in Ireland and the UK to offer a Cryotherapy Clinic.

The therapy has beneficial effects on health and general well-being by improving circulation which causes an increase in the delivery of oxygen and nutrients around the body. Cryotherapy is used to treat sport injuries, since the therapy reduces recovery time from muscle strain and injuries. It also gives pain relief in illnesses such as arthritis and frequent Whole Body Cryotherapy tightens the skin and prevents wrinkles.

“We are very excited about coming back to Ireland, we had such an amazing time when we came to the final in May. Whites Hotel has been so good to us and one of the best hotels we have stayed at yet – everyone is so friendly, except when they made us renew our vows in the Cryo Thermal Unit! It is such fun to be able to add renewing our vows as minus 110 degrees to our Record breaking attempt!” said Denise, who is from Australia. Her husband of 10 months Mark is from London. His mother comes originally from County Donegal.

Whole Body Cryotherapy initially originated in Japan in 1978, but it was a group of Polish scientists who took the idea and made Whole Body Cryotherapy the effective physical therapy it is today.

The chamber works by cooling the entire skin surface of the body in order to develop defensive reflexes and reactions such as stimulation of blood circulation, endocrine system, the immune system and the central nervous system. Such stimulation makes the therapy beneficial to a range of conditions.

“The Cryo room is actually famous for visiting sports teams. To put that into perspective, the coldest temperature recorded on earth was at Vostock, Antartica at -89 degrees. We thought it would be fun to renew our vows in it - and believe me, it was COLD, but afterwards I felt great and invigorated,” she adds.

“Don’t worry if that’s not your thing. Whites is a wonderful hotel with everything you need for a fantastic romantic stay for your wedding, honeymoon or special occasion. Gorgeous rooms, wonderful food, charming Irish service and impeccable attention to detail.”

Mark and Denise Duffield Thomas won the Ultimate Job in Ireland – and probably the World in May. Organised by Irish wedding and honeymoon destination company RunAway Bride and Groom, the Ultimate Job received 30,000 applications from over 90 countries and global media attention since launching on 19th February.
